Short course 1: Dredging for Sustainable Infrastructure
Presented by International Association of Dredging Companies (IADC) and Central Dredging Association (CEDA)
Instructors: Erik van Eekelen (Van Oord) and Thomas Vijverberg (Boskalis)
Length: Full day

IADC & CEDA’s new course, based on the philosophy of the book Dredging for Sustainable Infrastructure has been shortened into a one-day course for the Coastal Dynamics Conference 2021. During this course participants will learn how sustainability principles can be implemented in practice in dredging projects. Emphasis will be placed on basic principles of sustainability, key enablers for sustainability in projects and the role of nature-based solutions. The course is aimed at scientists and practitioners as well as professionals involved in dredging related activities for water infrastructure development working in government, port authorities, consultancy firms, dredging companies, NGOs, suppliers or ship-builders. It's also for people with the ambition to achieve sustainable and resilient water infrastructure or dredging projects that contribute to the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Price Euro 275, including VAT
With a minimum of 20 participants

Participants in this IADC-CEDA short Dredging for Sustainable Infrastructure Course can purchase the book with a 30% discount for 100 euros (excl. VAT and shipping costs, if applicable). If you are interested in this, you can send an email to             vanleeuwen@iadc-dredging.com with your name and address details. You will then receive an invoice and a payment request (via Ideal or Credit Card) and after payment we will ensure that you receive the book in time.

Short course 2: Dune dynamics
Presented by Netherlands Centre for Coastal Research
Instructors: Sierd de Vries (TU Delft), Kathelijne Wijnberg (Twente University) and Gerben Ruessink (Utrecht University)
Length: Full day

This course will address the complexity of natural and managed coastal dunes. Worldwide there has been an increasing attention for medium to long term management strategies for coastal dunes while coastal dunes provide a multitude of functions. This has led to new scientific insights regarding process knowledge, data collection, sensing techniques and modelling capabilities but also an increasing number of real life case studies with large monitoring programs. In this short course we will synthesis these new insights and knowledge developments using specific examples and outcomes of recent research. The participants will be introduced to several real life cases,  basic and advanced knowledge on physical processes and applied numerical techniques (AEOLIS and AEOLUS models).

Price Euro 275, including VAT
With a minimum of 20 participants

Short course 3: Coastal risk and adaptation
Presented by IHE Delft
Instructors: Ali Dastgheib, Dano Roelvink, William Veerbeek
Length: Half day

In this half-day course participants will be introduced to the latest definition of risk by IPCC, explore different components of risk and identify the main drivers of increasing risk in coastal zones. Participants will be introduced to methodologies for developing scenarios for changes in drivers of risk in longer term including the effect of climate change and the modelling approaches to determine the magnitude of different coastal hazards. Finally they will learn how to perform different levels of risk assessment, and develop strategies to adapt and reduce the risk.

Price Euro 275, including VAT
With a minimum of 20 participants

Short course 4: XBeach modelling
Presented by Deltares
Instructors: Robert McCall, Ellen Quataert, Floortje Roelvink
Length: Half day

XBeach is an open-source coastal model which can simulate nearshore hydro- and morphodynamic processes on sandy, gravel, coral, vegetated and urbanized coasts under daily and extreme conditions. In this short course an introduction on XBeach will be given through a series of lectures.  In these lectures we will cover
- Morphodynamic processes included in the model
- basic theoretical understanding on XBeach capabilities and functionalities;
- latest developments in XBeach including advance peek into the new “Home Edition” release.
- Tips & tricks from experienced modellers to set-up a XBeach model, change model settings and visualize results using an example XBeach model.
Note that this course is not a XBeach training with hands-on exercises. An example XBeach model will be shared with the participants, that will be used by the participants during the course.

Price Euro 275, including VAT
With a minimum of 20 participants
